Matthews One Name Study

This is a site dedicated to information about people with the surname of Matthews/Mathews/Matthew/Mathew but principally MATTHEWS.Having looked at many Census records I find that the spelling of Matthews changes inconsistently between the records but MATTHEWS is the predominant spelling and this is borne out by the General Register Office entries.For consistency in this Study I have used the spelling MATTHEWS.

This site was only created in September 2018 so please be patient if I do not have any information about your family.If you are unable to find the person you are looking for please contact me and I will consider adding them to the database.Research for the Site has been ongoing for more than 20 years and it is only recently that I decided to publish.I have carried out research in many of the Central,Northern and Eastern Counties of England but have yet to explore the Southern Counties and Wales.That being said if I have come across a family from the Southern Counties who has moved northwards then I may have information to help you.The Site looks at Counties and the branches of the Matthews Family within that County from the earliest record I have been able to find and then follows the family as it dispersed. The Study being organised in branches (with lineages descending from a single individual ) it is hoped that as the Study and Site progresses the branches may merge.
